What We Treat
You don't need to know exactly what's wrong or what kind of therapy you need. That's our job. Whatever you're dealing with, there's a therapist on our team with the right specialty.
How Individual Therapy Works
Flexible, Tailored, Evidence-Based
Individual therapy at Bay Area CBT Center is structured around your specific needs — not a generic protocol. Your therapist selects from multiple evidence-based approaches and adjusts as you progress.
Your Schedule
Weekly, biweekly, or more intensive. Shorter check-ins or longer deep-work sessions. We build around what works for you and adjust as you progress.
Your Approach
Your therapist draws from CBT, ACT, Schema Therapy, DBT, EMDR, and somatic methods — selecting what fits your situation, not applying a one-size-fits-all model.
Your Way
In person at our San Francisco, Oakland, Marin, or Roseville offices — or online from anywhere in California. Same therapists, same quality. Switch between formats anytime.
Right Match Guarantee
If the first therapist isn't the right fit, we'll rematch you with someone else at no additional cost. No awkward conversations, no starting over.
Why Bay Area CBT Center Is Different
Insight alone doesn't lead to behavioral change. We combine deep understanding with active skill-building — every session has structure, direction, and measurable goals.
Sessions feel like venting — you're heard, but nothing changes.
Every session uses structured, evidence-based interventions that produce measurable change.
Your therapist uses a one-size-fits-all approach with no clear plan.
Treatment is personalized from day one — drawn from 10+ modalities based on what works for your situation.
You scroll through profiles hoping someone is a good fit.
We match you with a specialist based on your specific concerns. If it's not right, we rematch you free.
Therapy only addresses surface symptoms, leaving root patterns untouched.
We work at the schema level — interrupting the deep patterns that keep problems recurring.
Insight without action. You understand your problems but can't change them.
Insight alone doesn't change behavior. We actively teach skills and assign practice between sessions.

Evidence-Based Approaches
The Methods We Use
Every therapist on our team is trained across modalities. Your therapy draws on whichever tools produce the best results for your situation.
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Builds psychological flexibility — be present with difficult emotions while taking action toward what matters.
Schema Therapy
Gets to the root of deep, long-standing patterns that started in childhood and keep showing up in your relationships and decisions.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Restructures the thought patterns driving your anxiety, avoidance, and low mood. The most researched therapy in the world.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Emotion regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness for when emotions feel unmanageable.
EMDR Therapy
Process traumatic memories using bilateral stimulation for lasting relief. Especially effective for PTSD, complex trauma, and phobias.
Somatic Therapy
Release trauma stored in the body through movement, breathwork, and awareness. Addresses the physical dimension of emotional distress.
Humanistic Therapies
Client-centered, growth-oriented approaches that honor your lived experience and support authenticity, meaning, and self-understanding.
Exposure Therapy
Gradually face feared situations, thoughts, or sensations in a structured way so anxiety loses its grip and avoidance no longer runs the show.
Compassion Focused Therapy
Develop self-compassion to overcome shame, harsh self-criticism, and fear — building a kinder, steadier inner voice.
Attachment-Based Therapy
Explore how early relationship patterns shape how you connect today, and build more secure, trusting bonds with yourself and others.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
Combine mindfulness practices with cognitive therapy to reduce rumination, prevent relapse, and stay grounded in the present.
Nonviolent Communication
Learn to express needs clearly and listen with empathy — transforming conflict into connection in relationships and daily life.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if I need therapy?
If something isn't working — you're stuck in the same patterns, managing more than you should have to on your own, or functioning well on the outside but struggling internally — therapy can help. You don't need a diagnosis or a crisis to start.
What happens in the first session?
Your therapist conducts a thorough assessment — what brought you in, your history, your goals, and what you've tried before. You'll leave with a clear understanding of what's driving your patterns and a concrete treatment plan with realistic timelines.
Can I adjust the frequency and intensity?
Yes. Some clients come weekly, others biweekly. Some prefer shorter check-ins, others need longer or more intensive sessions. We build the schedule around what works for you and adjust as you progress.
What's different about your approach?
We don't just listen and reflect. Insight alone doesn't change behavior. Our therapists actively intervene — teaching skills in session, assigning between-session practice, using evidence-based techniques, and giving direct feedback. Every session has structure and direction.
Do you accept insurance?
We are out-of-network providers. We provide superbills that most PPO plans reimburse at 50–80%. Our intake team can help you verify your benefits before you start.
Can I switch between in-person and online?
Absolutely. Many clients alternate based on their schedule — coming in person when they can and switching to video when it's more convenient. Same therapist, same quality either way.
Still Not Sure Where to Start?
Most people aren't. Twenty minutes, no cost — we'll ask what's going on and match you with the right therapist. If the first fit isn't right, we'll rematch you at no charge.
