Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Notice how thoughts, feelings, and actions affect one another. Practice small changes that make difficult situations more manageable.
When weekly therapy is not enough
An intensive outpatient program in San Jose can give you more support than weekly therapy, while you continue living at home.
If weekly therapy isn't enough right now, you don't have to choose between that and a hospital. There's something in between: a virtual program built around your needs, not one set schedule for everyone.
More support.
Your needs shape the planIntensive outpatient programs offer more time with a therapist and more guided practice when weekly sessions are not enough. Our mental health IOP in San Jose supports people managing anxiety, low mood, trauma-related symptoms, or difficulty with daily responsibilities who can safely participate from home.
Bay Area CBT Center starts with a questionnaire and clinical assessment, then creates a structured program around you. This is mental health care, not substance use treatment or a replacement for urgent or hospital-based care.
Start with a free consultOur customized IOP programs start with a questionnaire and clinical assessment. Adult IOP programs in San Jose are tailored to your symptoms, existing support, and daily responsibilities, with a clear plan for how the sessions work together.
We explain your recommended schedule, time commitment, fees, and included services before you begin.

You don't have to wait until things fall apart to ask for more help. These are some reasons to talk with us about a higher level of support.
A weekly session no longer feels like enough
Anxiety or low mood is making daily life harder
Stress is affecting your sleep, work, or relationships
You want more guided practice between appointments
Trauma-related symptoms are getting in the way
You need both individual attention and group support
You can attend safely from a private place at home
You want help deciding what level of care fits
We assess whether IOP is a good fit before you begin. This is not substance use treatment, emergency care, or a substitute for hospitalization.

Intensive outpatient therapy draws on CBT, ACT, DBT, Schema Therapy, and compassion-focused therapy. Your therapist explains the tools you are using and why they fit what you are working on.
Sessions give you space to talk, learn, and practice. You might work on responding to anxious thoughts, managing intense emotions, changing familiar patterns, or treating yourself with less criticism. We check in as you go and adjust the plan when your needs change.
Talk through your optionsWe choose approaches that fit what you are working on. Here is what those names mean in everyday terms.
Notice how thoughts, feelings, and actions affect one another. Practice small changes that make difficult situations more manageable.
Make room for difficult thoughts and feelings without letting them make every decision. Take steps toward what matters to you.
Practice skills for handling strong emotions, getting through hard moments, and communicating what you need.
Understand long-standing beliefs and coping patterns, especially when familiar reactions keep showing up in your relationships or daily life.
Work with shame and self-criticism. Develop a kinder, more supportive way of responding to yourself when things are hard.
Practice describing what happened without blame, identifying your feelings and needs, and making clear requests. Build empathy through listening as well as expressing yourself.
Every one of our customized intensive outpatient programs includes individual therapy and group therapy. One-to-one sessions address your own concerns. In a therapist-led group, you practice skills and learn alongside other people.
Depending on your needs, your plan may also include medication management, support groups, family therapy, couples therapy, or a mental health retreat. These aren't automatic extras. We discuss what would help and what each option involves.
Explore your optionsThe two essentials in every program, with other care added when it helps.
Work privately with a therapist on the concerns, goals, and patterns that are specific to you. This is included in every program.
Learn and practice with other people in therapist-led sessions. Group therapy is also included in every program.
When medication support is appropriate, it may be included in your plan with a qualified prescribing clinician.
Additional support groups may offer connection and encouragement alongside your therapy. We discuss whether they would be useful for you.
If relationships are part of what needs attention, your plan may include family therapy or couples therapy, with your consent.
A retreat may be considered as part of your wider care plan. Ask about suitability, format, location, and any additional arrangements; the IOP itself is virtual.
More appointments shouldn't just mean more things on your calendar. The work needs to fit together. We connect your individual goals with group practice and any other support in your plan, so you know what each part is there to do.
You can ask questions about the plan and tell us when something is not working. Your feedback matters.
Talk with our teamYour questionnaire is a starting point for understanding you, not a score that decides your care on its own.
You know what you are working toward and how the sessions support those goals.
We explain the limits of outpatient care and discuss a different setting when you need more support.

Our program is virtual. You can join from San Jose or anywhere in California, without traveling to an IOP campus. You need a private space and a reliable internet connection for sessions.
Your session frequency and timing follow the plan we create with you, rather than one fixed schedule for everyone. We talk through the time commitment, your responsibilities, and whether online care is a good fit before you begin.
Start with a questionnaire. We take it from there together.
Tell us what has been difficult and what you hope will change. You do not need to have everything figured out.
We review your answers with you, discuss safety and daily life, and decide whether IOP is the right level of support.
We plan individual and group therapy, a structured schedule, and any additional care that fits your needs.
We check how the plan is working and make changes together, including a move to less-intensive support when appropriate.

IOP is a level of mental health care between weekly therapy and hospital-based treatment. Our program is virtual and always includes individual therapy and group therapy. We assess your needs and build your program around them, rather than assigning everyone the same schedule.
No. Your program starts with a questionnaire and an assessment of your needs. We create a structured plan with you, including session frequency, timing, and any additional support. We explain the commitment before you begin.
Psychiatric outpatient care may focus on medical assessment and medication. Our IOP is built around psychotherapy, with individual and group sessions in every program. Medication management may also be included when appropriate, with a qualified prescribing clinician. We can discuss which combination fits your needs.
If you are looking for a PTSD IOP in San Jose, we can assess whether this program fits your trauma-related symptoms and current support needs. Treatment is tailored to you. If urgent support or a different level of care is needed, this outpatient program may not be the right starting point.
If you are looking for an intensive outpatient program for teen mental health in San Jose, ask us about current age eligibility and whether this program would fit your teen. We discuss their needs, safety, and any parent involvement before recommending care. An adult program is not automatically the right choice for a teenager.
No. This program focuses on mental health. It is not an addiction treatment program or a detox service. If substance use treatment is what you need, a service designed for that care would be a more appropriate starting point.
IOP is scheduled outpatient care, not emergency support. If you are in immediate danger or cannot stay safe, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. For mental health crisis support in the U.S., call or text 988. You do not need to wait for an IOP consultation to get urgent help.
That depends on your needs and the time your program requires. We talk about work, school, caregiving, and other commitments while building the plan. Virtual sessions remove the commute, but it is important to leave enough time and privacy for treatment.

Tell us what weekly therapy is not covering right now. We can explain the questionnaire, answer your questions, and help you decide whether this program is a good next step.
